Rhys fakes a disability

Rhys suggests that the wink could be akin to an epic movie, like Ben-Hur, although they suggest perhaps that should now be called “Ben-Them”.

Rhys then says that people love it when characters in movies get well again, like when Willy Wonka appears to fall over and then does a forward roll in the original version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. When Rhys decides that they are going to be using crutches, and then suddenly get better, Tom Cashman asks them if they are just faking a disability.

Rhys’ attempt begins with them standing by the dock, wearing a lifejacket, and using crutches. The film is accompanied by poignant music, as they take a couple of tentative steps forwards. They then drop the crutches, exclaiming “Hey!”, before performing a forward roll and beating Tom in a game of chess.

Rhys is then seen apparently waterskiing in the pond, although they’re actually just standing in the rowing boat, wearing skis. After Rhys claims “I’m water skiing, and I’m going super-fast!”, the camera zooms in on their face as they wink.

In the studio, Rhys announces “For your Logie consideration…”, thus coining the episode title.

When Tom Gleeson asks Rhys if being non-binary means that you are allowed to make fun of disabled people, Rhys asks “If you are a straight white man, are you allowed to even bring up the fact that I’m non-binary?”, before quickly adding “Yes you are”. They then argue that they weren’t actually meant to be disabled, and that they’d just found the crutches in the shed.

Rhys gets a good reaction to their wink, and they are awarded 4 points.
